'Framing John DeLorean' Races into the Summer KCET Cinema Series on June 11

Q&A immediately following with directors Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, and producer Tamir Ardon.

Power, money, controversy and scandal all converge to tell the story of a man who pursued the American Dream and sought to transform the auto industry. John DeLorean was known for his meteoric rise as a top executive at General Motors where his obsessive ambition to build the world's finest sports car also led to his fall on charges of cocaine trafficking. Interweaving archival footage and dramatic vignettes, the film stars Alec Baldwin as DeLorean.

Directors Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce said, “In making 'Framing John DeLorean', we were fascinated by the idea of really knowing a person, and what factors in one's life ‘frame’ this opinion. Did anyone ever know the ‘real’ John DeLorean? Is there a ‘real’ version of anyone?  How could people very close to a subject have wildly differing views of them?  Which of them was right — one of them, all of them, none of them?  We explored this idea by not only using traditional doc techniques of sit-down interviews, archival footage, etc., but also creating narrative scenes, and using the behind-the-scenes, or ‘making-of’ these narrative scenes, to address the question — who was the real John DeLorean?”

The film screens at 7:00 p.m. at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica. Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will moderate a Q&A session with producer Tamir Ardon. "Framing John DeLorean" will be released in select theatres on June 7, 2019.

The summer season of the KCET Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Deadline.com. The season began on June 4 and runs through July 23. The first six dates will be held at the historic Aero Theatre on June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2 and 9. The last two dates will be held at the Landmark Theatre on July 16 and 23. Season passes are available online here and individual admissions are available at the door for $30 each. The Aero Theatre is located at 1328 Montana Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90403 and nearby parking is available. To learn more about the series call 201.747.5238.
