George Clooney's 'The Midnight Sky' is an Apocalyptic Triumph of the Human Spirit at the Virtual KCET Cinema Series on Dec. 23
Q&A immediately following with the film’s star, director and producer George Clooney.
As a global catastrophe arrives, everyone but Augustine (George Clooney) abandons their Arctic research station. The lone, aging scientist discovers a mysterious child and realizes the airwaves have gone silent. As he races to stop a space ship from returning to Earth, Mission Commander Adewole (David Oyelowo), Mission Specialist Sullivan (Felicity Jones) and the other astronauts aboard the Aether confront a Mission Control on Earth that’s fallen inexplicably silent. Clooney directs the adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel Good Morning, Midnight, co-starring Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir and Tiffany Boone.
“There’s a longing in this story,” says Clooney. “It’s a real need to connect, deeply connect. And there’s also this conversation about what mankind is capable of doing to mankind that creeps up on you…In recent years, things have gotten scarier and, I think, a little more polarized, but that’s cyclical. We still always like a good apocalyptic story.”
Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will moderate a Q&A with the film’s star, director and producer George Clooney.
The film screens on Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 7 p.m. PST. Only $10 per viewing link. Limited space available.
