Q&A immediately following the screening with director Jonathan Jakubowicz.

Based on the true story of promising Jewish actor, Marcel Marceau (Jesse Eisenberg), who was forced into hiding when France fell upon Nazi-occupation during World War II. When his knack for forging passports lead him to joining the French Resistance, this catches the attention of infamous Gestapo leader Klaus Barbie (Matthias Schweighöfer). Marceau risks everything to conceal himself and hundreds of children through the Swiss Alps to sanctuary Switzerland. Marceau’s creative acts of deception and clever ruses tell the heroic story of one of the most acclaimed performers in history. Directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, the cast also includes Edgar Ramirez, Clémence Poésy and Ed Harris.

Writer/director Jonathan Jakubowicz reflects on the legacy of the film: “…I’ve never heard of a story of a man who finds his art by saving the lives of children, and later goes on to become the best artist of all time in his discipline. There are many heroes in this world, and many stories worth telling. But I don’t think there’s a story like that of Marcel. That’s why I fell in love with it. And it’s been by far the most important experience of my life.”

The film screens at 7 p.m. at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks. Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET’s Must See Movies, will moderate a Q&A session. “Resistance” will be released in theaters by IFC on March 27, 2020 to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Month.

The spring season of the KCET Cinema Series runs from February 11 through March 31. The Arclight Cinemas Sherman Oaks is located at 15301 Ventura Blvd. and nearby parking is available. To learn more about the series, call (201) 747-5238.
