It's Johnny Mercer night again at the KCET Cinema Series!

Closing out the Fall series in Santa Monica this Tuesday is a special 50th anniversary screening of the Johnny Mercer scored 1962 classic drama "Days of Wine and Roses." A true celluloid pioneer on the subject of alcoholism, the film chronicles a couple's descent into and battle against that sometimes unyielding hellion of addiction. Directed by Blake Edwards and starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick (both nominated for Oscars for their performances in the film), "Days of Wine and Roses" has been named among one of The New York Times' best 1,000 films ever made and is included in the ranks of AFI's best 400 films list. The film's title song, composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, marking Mercer's fourth Oscar win in the category.

But, first! Before the main event comes an equally as tantalizing treat! Preceding "Days of Wine and Roses" will be a screening of the Brad Hall helmed "Picture Paris," the short film making waves on the festival circuit. Starring the incomparable Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a suburban mother whose newly empty nest finally prompts her to take that sure to be life-changing trip to Paris she'd always imagined - only to be confronted with the disappointment of pesky reality once she gets there. Watch the trailer here and prepare your burning questions in advance of when husband-wife comedy vets Brad Hall and Julia Louis-Dreyfus join Pete Hammond for a Q&A after the screening!
