KCET Cinema Series Opens Fall Season with 'The Sea of Trees'
The KCET Cinema Series opens its fall season on Tuesday, August 16 at the historic Aero Theatre in Santa Monica with "The Sea of Trees." Directed by Gus Van Sant and written by Chris Sparling, the compelling drama stars Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey, Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe. McConaughey and Watts play a married couple, Arthur and Joan, who have endured significant hardships. Watanabe plays Takumi, a man Arthur meets and befriends deep within Japan's Aokigahara, also known as the Suicide Forest or Sea of Trees. Following the screening, producer Ken Kao will be on-hand for a Q&A session led by host Pete Hammond.
The fall season of the KCET Cinema Series will run from August 16 through October 10 at the Aero Theatre. Upcoming screenings include the most anticipated films of the season, like the Sundance Film Festival hit "Birth of a Nation" (September 20). The KCET Cinema Series is generously sponsored by the James and Paula Coburn Foundation.
