Legendary Producer Walter Mirisch Honored with KCET Cinema Series Lumière Award at THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Screening Event

A special private red carpet screening event honoring legendary filmmaker Walter Mirisch with the KCET Cinema Series Lumière Award was held at Santa Monica's historic Aero Theatre on July 14, hosted by film expert Pete Hammond (Deadline.com). The Academy Award® winning filmmaker was acknowledged for his lifetime work during the Cinema Series' annual James Coburn Movie Night followed by a screening of the classic Western THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN that Mirisch produced in 1960.

The evening kicked off with KCETLink's President and CEO Michael Riley welcoming the crowd followed by a speech from KCETLink's COO Mary Mazur honoring Mirisch for his lifetime of achievements where it was noted that he began his career at Monogram Pictures, which was formerly the site of KCET's studios. Mirisch accepted The Lumière Award recognizing excellence, artistry and innovation by an actor or filmmaker for outstanding contribution to film.

A 30-minute Q&A moderated by Hammond followed, during which, Mirisch discussed his role in producing some of the industry's most memorable films such as SOME LIKE IT HOT (1959), THE APARTMENT (1960), WEST SIDE STORY (1961), THE GREAT ESCAPE (1963), THE PINK PANTHER (1963) and many others including IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967) for which Mirisch won an Oscar.® Mirisch is still active in Hollywood with his role as President and Executive Head of Production at The Mirisch Corporation, including his role as Executive Producer on upcoming remakes of both THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (2017) and THE PINK PANTHER (2016).
