KCET Cinema Series Continues on June 14 with 'Life, Animated'
The summer season of the KCET Cinema Series continues on Tuesday, June 14, at Santa Monica's Aero Theatre with "Life, Animated."
Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Roger Ross Williams takes viewers into the life of Owen Suskind, the son of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind, who is autistic and was unable to verbally communicate with his parents until they were able to reach him through his favorite Disney films. Owen was the subject of his father's book, "Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism," which also serves as the inspiration for this film. "Life, Animated" took home the Directing Award for a U.S. documentary at Sundance Film Festival. "It's fascinating," says KCET Cinema Series host Pete Hammond, adding that there is animation mixed in with the documentary footage.
Paul Davidson, executive vice president of Film and Television for The Orchard, will join Hammond for a Q&A session following the screening.
Proudly sponsored by the James and Paula Coburn Foundation and E. Hofert Dailey Trust, the KCET Cinema Series brings audiences anticipated films prior to their public release. Screenings are followed by enlightening Q&A sessions helmed by Deadline awards editor and columnist Pete Hammond. The summer season began on June 7 and will run through August 2 at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
