"Strange to think about how a completely random moment would shape my entire life," Oscar Isaac muses in the trailer for “Life Itself.” The story centers on the life of a young couple that goes from college romance to marriage and the birth of their first child. Along the way, the unexpected twists of their journey create reverberations that echo over continents and through lifetimes while examining the perils and rewards of everyday life. Isaac and Olivia Wilde lead a multigenerational love story spanning both decades and continents, from the streets of New York to the Spanish countryside…that are all connected by a single event. The film also stars Olivia Cooke, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Mandy Patinkin and Antonio Banderas in an A-list ensemble cast.

“Life Itself” celebrates the human condition and all of its complications with humor, poignancy and love. Director Dan Fogelman is best known for the tear-jerking hit NBC series “This Is Us” so it only makes sense that he would translate his signature style on to the big screen. With an already packed schedule, Fogelman did not take the decision to direct this film lightly. “But something about this movie got in my bones and I had to do it,” he says. “The film is about a lot of different things. It’s about life and how big and messy and full of love and of tragedy it is. It’s about people. It explores the ups and downs, the sad and the happy, and this beautiful, weird thing we’re all in together — life itself. The plot is nearly impossible to describe, which is one of the things that really excites me about it.”

“Life Itself” was listed on the 2016 "Blacklist" — a list of the best unproduced scripts of the year — and will be released in theaters on September 21 by Amazon Studios. The film’s director Dan Fogelman will be in attendance for a Q&A session immediately following the screening with host and Deadline film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen in KCET’s Must See Movies.. The fall season of the KCET Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Deadline.com. The season began on August 14 and runs through October 9. Season passes are available online via Eventbrite and individual admissions are available at the door for $30 each.
