Director and Co-Writer Alexander Payne Scheduled to Attend Q&A

When scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall as a solution to overpopulation, people soon realize how much further money goes in a miniaturized world. With the promise of a better life, everyman Paul (Matt Damon) and his wife Audrey (Kristen Wiig) decide to abandon their stressed lives in Omaha in order to get small and move to a new downsized community — a choice that triggers life-changing adventures.

Alexander Payne found himself directing a movie that required visual-effects shots — 650, to be precise — as he depicted the contrast between worlds big and small. “It was fun and tedious,” he says. “I’m in my mid-fifties and learning a new bag of tricks. I’m eager to do another visual-effects movie, and I’m eager to do no movie again with visual effects.”

The film also stars Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau. "Downsizing" will be released in theaters by Paramount on December 22 following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Director and Co-Writer Alexander Payne will join KCET Cinema Series and Must See Movies host Pete Hammond for a Q&A immediately following the screening.

Deadline.com is the official media sponsor for the winter season of the KCET Cinema Series. The sold out season began on October 24 and runs through December 12. The film begins at 7 p.m. at the Arclight Sherman Oaks (15301 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403). Nearby parking is available.
