A coming-of-age story straight out of Jersey, an unlikely rapper finds her voice as a one-of-a-kind hip-hop legend in the making in Patti Cake$, the first feature film from acclaimed commercial and music-video director Geremy Jasper. Set in the backdrop of a gritty strip-mall suburbia, Patti Cake$ chronicles an underdog’s quest for fame and glory with humor, raw energy and some unforgettable beats. Producer Dan Janvey will join KCET Cinema Series and Must See Movies host Pete Hammond for a Q&A immediately following the screening.

New York Magazine's Vulture.com called the film a "Sundance charmer" and described it as perhaps "the most endearing surprise," of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. USA Today reported that the star of the film Danielle Macdonald was met with a standing ovation when she took the stage after the world premiere at Sundance.

The summer season of the KCET Cinema Series is generously sponsored by the James and Paula Coburn Foundation. The season began on June 6 and runs through August 1. Prorated season passes as well as individual admissions for $25 each are available at the door. The film begins at 7 p.m. at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica (1328 Montana Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90403). Nearby street parking is available.
