"The Magic of Belle Isle," the new Rob Reiner-directed Morgan Freeman film (in theaters July 6), was the opening night film at the summer KCET Cinema Series. Like all films featured in the series -- which is hosted this season by Santa Monica's Aero Theater -- it was followed by a Q&A led by movie critic Pete Hammond. Director Reiner was the opening night special guest, KCET videotaped the interview.
In the clip above, Reiner talks about the his tendency to make movies that aren't exactly studio-friendly. But despite the hesitation of studios, his films continue to be popular once they hit theaters.
