Sofia Coppola’s Civil War Drama ‘The Beguiled’ Entrances Audiences at KCET’s Cinema Series on June 20th
Sofia Coppola's “The Beguiled”, recently awarded Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival, is a heart-stopping remake of a 1971 Don Siegel revenge thriller starring Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page. Based on the novel “The Beguiled” (originally published as “A Painted Devil”) by Thomas P. Cullinan, an injured Union soldier arrives at an all-female boarding school during the Civil War in Virginia. Soon, sexual tensions lead to dangerous rivalries as the women tend to his wounds and offer him shelter and companionship. Starring Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning, “The Beguiled” is a Focus Features release. Producer Youree Henley will be in attendance for a Q&A session with Must See Movies host Pete Hammond immediately following the screening.
“I thought it was exciting to work with a group of women and then put Colin in the equation,” Kidman comments. “I was so happy to support Sofia as a female director, and I always thought that she made such atmospheric movies in such a signature style. That was the main thing which drew me to working with her.”
