Spring KCET Cinema Series Schedule

The spring KCET Cinema Series is back at the ArcLight Cinemas in Sherman Oaks. The series previews new Hollywood and independent films prior to their theatrical release.

Hosted by nationally recognized film expert Pete Hammond, each film is followed by a lively Q&A with the talent or filmmaker.

Films screen February 23 - April 12 on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM.

Spring Series:

Feb. 23

'Eye In The Sky', a British spy thriller, stars Helen Mirren and the late Alan Rickman from Bleecker Street.

Q & A immediately following with director Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins:Wolverine and Tsotsi).

March 1

'Hello My Name is Doris', comedy, stars Sally Field and Max Greenfield from Roadside Attractions.

Q & A immediately following with writer/director Michael Showalter.

March 8

'The Bronze', a comedy, stars Melissa Rauch. The film premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January.

March 15

'The Clan' (aka 'El Clan'), an Argentine crime drama based on the case of the Puccios, a family from Buenos Aires that kidnapped four people; three of whom they brutally murdered in the 1980s.  The film was screened at the 2015 Venice International Film Festival and won director Pablo Trapero the Silver Lion Award. The film had the strongest opening ever for an Argentine film, earning a half million dollars at the box office in only four days.

March 22

'Lolo',French-American actor/director Julie Delpy (“Before Midnight”) writes, directs and stars in this satirical comedy about a fortysomething workaholic Violette who finds romance while on a spa vacation. Her new beau (Dany Boon) soon has doubts when he discovers Violette’s unusual relationship with her 20-year-old son. The film premiered at the 2015 Venice International Film Festival.

March 29 

In 'Dark Horse', based on the true life experience of bipolar chess player Genesis Potini, writer/director James Napier Robertson brings the story to the big screen with a stunning performance by Cliff Curtis (Whale Rider) as Genesis, a brilliant but troubled New Zealand chess champion who finds purpose teaching underprivileged children about the rules of chess and life.  The film has won 21 awards and 16 nominations at film festivals internationally.

April 5 

In 'Demolition', a compassionate woman (Naomi Watts) and her defiant son (Judah Lewis) form a relationship with a Wall Street investment banker (Jake Gyllenhaal) whose life begins to horribly unravel following the tragic death of his wife (Heather Lind).

April 12 

'The Meddler' stars Oscar winning actor Susan Sarandon who portrays a woman that is struggling to find a new path in life after the death of her husband, and soon decides that a move to Los Angeles to be closer to her daughter (Rose Byrne) will be life changing for her. The film was shot in Southern California locations including Topanga Canyon and Malibu. Directed by Lorene Scafaria (“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”) and it had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
