Stanley Tucci in 'Submission' Raises Eyebrows at KCET’s Spring Cinema Series February 20

Director Richard Levine Scheduled to Attend Q&A

Richard Levine directs Stanley Tucci and Addison Timlin in “Submission,” a thought-provoking character study about the relationship between young student Angela Argo (Timlin) and her creative writing professor Ted Swenson (Tucci) at a small East Coast college. The drama is based on the Francine Prose novel "Blue Angel" that is inspired by the classic 1930’s film "The Blue Angel" starring Marlene Dietrich. Filmed pre-Weinstein exposé, the film’s timely release contributes to relevant topics including lustful abuse of power and sexual harassment.

Levine knew that his choice of story and topic would be a conversation starter. “I think it is a somewhat dangerous story to tell because sexual harassment is such a highly-charged issue right now, as it should be. Of course, this is one story, about specific characters, and is not meant to represent all victims of sexual harassment, or all perpetrators of sexual harassment.”

The film also features an eclectic cast including Kyra Sedgwick, Peter Gallagher, Janeane Garofalo and Jessica Hecht. “Submission” will be released in limited theatres by Paladin Films on March 2 following its premiere at the Los Angeles Film Festival last year. Director Richard Levine will join KCET Cinema Series and Must See Movies host Pete Hammond for a Q&A immediately following the screening.
