How do you live with the memory of a war that threatens to destroy you long after you’ve left the battlefield? That is the question posed by the biographical war film Thank You For Your Service. Starring actor Miles Teller as Army sergeant Adam Schumann, the plot follows three American soldiers returning from Iraq as they attempt to transition back into civilian life and cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The film is written and directed by Jason Hall (screenwriter of American Sniper, based on the life of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle) and is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Finkel.

“These guys aren’t coming home to a bunch of recognition and book deals like Chris Kyle. They’re blue-collar soldiers,” Hall says. “That transition is very hard, and it’s invisible to us, because they’re not celebrated. As soon as they take off the uniform, they’re just the guy pumping gas next to us at the gas station. In a way, their war is stripped from them quicker than a war hero, because it’s not recognized by anyone around them.”

The film also stars Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale and Amy Schumer. “Thank You For Your Service” will be released in theatres by Universal Pictures on October 27. Writer/Director Jason Hall and Actor Miles Teller will join KCET Cinema Series and Must See Movies host Pete Hammond for a Q&A immediately following the screening.

Prorated season passes are available on Eventbrite and individual admissions for $25 each are available at the door. The film begins at 7 p.m. at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica (1328 Montana Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90403). Nearby street parking is available.
