What if your life depended on a stranger? Adapted for the big screen from the best-selling novel by Charles Martin, The Mountain Between Us is the harrowing story of a surgeon (Idris Elba) and a photojournalist (Kate Winslet) who after the cancellation of their flight due to inclement weather both decide to board a charter plane that crashes in mid-flight. They miraculously survive with injuries but soon become lost in the High Uintas Wilderness in extreme weather conditions where they must discover their inner strength to endure the perilous terrain and reach safety together.

Abu-Assad said, "I really didn’t see an epic love story against the background of survival, I think optimism and hope is crucial to survive. And to go on with your life even if you’ve had a lot of bad luck. So if you give (in) to the bad luck, you will die. (But) if you fight the bad luck, you have a better chance to survive and make your life better. This is very simple wisdom, yes? But still very crucial especially in these kind of days, when everybody feels entitled to their good luck."

The film also stars Dermot Mulroney and Beau Bridges. “The Mountain Between Us” will be released in theatres by 20th Century Fox on October 6. Director Hany Abu-Assad and composer Ramin Djawadi will join KCET Cinema Series and Must See Movies host Pete Hammond for a Q&A immediately following the screening.
