'The Outpost' Is a Testament to Bravery at the Virtual KCET Cinema Series on June 24

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Rod Lurie ("The Contender," "The Last Castle"), the film is the true story of the 53 U.S. soldiers who battled a force of some 400 Taliban insurgents in one of the deadliest battles in the war of Afghanistan. Based on television correspondent and news anchor Jake Tapper’s New York Times best-selling book “The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor,” the film stars Scott Eastwood ("Suicide Squad," "Pacific Rim"), Caleb Landry Jones ("Three Billboards Outside Ebbing," "Get Out"), Orlando Bloom ("Lord of The Rings," "Pirates of the Caribbean"), Jack Kesy (TNT’s “Claws,” "12 Strong"), Taylor John Smith (HBO’s “Sharp Objects”), and Milo Gibson ("Hacksaw Ridge," "Brother’s Keeper").

Rod Lurie wrote and directed the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominated political thriller “The Contender,” starring Joan Allen, Jeff Bridges, Gary Oldman and Christian Slater. The film was also honored by the Broadcast Film Critics with the first-ever Alan J. Pakula Award. For television, Lurie created the series “Commander in Chief,” which was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and earned Geena Davis the Best Actress Golden Globe for her depiction of the first female President of the United States.

His recent projects include writing and directing the films “Straw Dogs,” a remake of the 1971 classic, starring James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and Alexander Skarsgard, “Nothing But the Truth,” starring Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda and Matt Dillon and “Resurrecting the Champ,” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett. Additionally, he created and executive-produced “Line of Fire,” a one-hour FBI drama for ABC and directed the feature film “The Last Castle, “which starred Robert Redford, James Gandolfini and Mark Ruffalo.
