Trying to sum up what made Shirley Maclaine “Shirley Maclaine” is difficult.

She has been a star in all of our lives for so long that we've reached a consensus on why she stood so brightly apart from many others. All that talent. She could act up a storm, dance up a storm, be beautiful and exciting in a way that was unexpected.

She could make us laugh and make us cry and, occasionally, do both at the same time.

That's rare -- that's Shirley!  Or, as I call her, Shoiley.
