Title: Golf Professional

Organization/Business: PGA

“Jerry Herrera is the personification of a genuine golfer and his love for the sport is what drives him to devote thousands of hours to introduce kids from underserved communities to the game. I am so moved by his unwavering devotion to transform youths’ lives through golf. What inspires me most about this PGA Golf Pro is the love, dedication and respect that’s there.”

       Azucena Maldonado, Nominator

About the nominee:

Jerry Herrera launched San Gabriel Junior Golf (SGJG) in January 2007 with the goal of turning neighborhood kids into college-bound golfers. Based in the San Gabriel Valley, SGJG is a non-profit organization that reaches out to youth from all ethnic backgrounds and provides both boys and girls (who comprise 65% of the current composition) with an opportunity to learn the game and develop lifelong skills that will help nurture self-esteem and confidence. With over 16,000 kids who have participated in the program, SGJG empowers youth to become productive members of society by giving them more opportunities for college as well as helping them develop leadership skills through athletic achievement as well as health and wellness.
