About the nominees:

Nanette Diaz Barragán and Jimmy Gomez both were born and raised in Southern California, each of them a child of immigrant parents who moved to California from Mexico. Representing their Southern California districts in the U.S. Congress, the two share interest in issues that matter locally: environmental and health justice, strengthening the economy, comprehensive healthcare and accessible education. Their mutual concern for immigration rights and reform has led them to visit the Mexican/American border to observe and, on occasion, to become intimately involved with the immigration crisis. In 2019 Representative Barragán was appointed to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce which is at the forefront of combating climate change. Representative Gomez sits on the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Committee on Oversight and Reform.
