L.A. County: Over 600 Nabbed in First Week of Holiday DUI Campaign

Law enforcement authorities will continue their winter holiday crackdown on impaired drivers with increased patrols and a series of checkpoints in various Los Angeles County cities through the weekend.

The campaign, which began Dec. 14, includes sobriety checkpoints, routine traffic enforcement and special deployments throughout Los Angeles County, according to the sheriff's department. There were 621 people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the first week of the effort.

Sobriety checkpoints are scheduled for Friday in Vernon, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona and South Pasadena along with the Baldwin Park area, Santa Clarita Valley, and West Los Angeles. There will be additional patrols in cities like Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, and Huntington Park.

Additional patrols will be out Saturday in El Monte, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, San Gabriel, and Whittier. There will also be sobriety checkpoints in Azusa, Huntington Park, Inglewood, Redondo Beach, Signal Hill, and Altadena.

On Sunday, extra patrols will be in place in Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Torrance, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Huntington Park, Long Beach, Signal Hill and Vernon.

The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown will continue next weekend as well.
