Michelle Garcia
Michelle Garcia is a system impacted mother of four who is driven to inspire others through passionate storytelling. She openly shares her experience as an incarcerated firefighter and the challenges she and her family endured during incarceration and after her release. Michelle is currently working with the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, a program that takes men paroling from inmate fire crews and trains them in a California state fire fighter academy, providing them with useful skills as they reenter society.

For many incarcerated people, fire camp offers a critical opportunity at a difficult time, yet California still has a long way to go towards supporting the inmate firefighters it relies on so heavily for its fire programs.
