Burbank, Calif. – Sep. 20, 2016 –,KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, announced today the online launch of a new food series, THE MIGRANT KITCHEN, produced in partnership with acclaimed print/online magazine Life & Thyme, dedicated to documenting food culture around the globe with a focus on storytelling. THE MIGRANT KITCHEN explores Los Angeles’ booming food scene through the eyes of a new generation of chefs whose cuisine is inspired by the immigrant experience. Beginning TODAY, Tues., Sep. 20, a series of five 10-12 minute web episodes will be released weekly online at KCET.org/TheMigrantKitchen and culminate with a television broadcast special airing on Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on KCET in Southern California and Link TV Nationwide (DirectTV 375 DISH Network 9410). 
    
Through the new series, viewers will visit the kitchens and recipes of those who have transformed the culinary landscape of the city, combining traditional ethnic cuisines as well as fusions of new flavors and techniques that make Los Angeles one of the food capitals of the world. The series will feature interviews with key Los Angeles chefs and food influencers including Michael Cimarusti (Providence, Connie & Ted's), Alvin Cailan (Eggslut, Unit 120), Chad and Chase Valencia (LASA), Adelle Yellin (Grand Central Market) and Charles Olalia (RiceBar).

The series will roll out digitally as follows*: 

Tues., Sep. 20 - “Chirmol”:
In American restaurants, immigrants are the backbone of the kitchen. Guatemalan brothers Jorge and Rigo bring indispensable knowledge and skill to two Los Angeles institutions, Providence and Connie and Ted’s.

Tues., Sep. 27 - “Barkada”:
The Filipino food movement finds chefs of various backgrounds and professional levels embracing tradition, forming community and pushing forward the cuisine of their heritage together.

Tues., Oct. 4 - “Mercado”:
Through perseverance and entrepreneurial efforts, two Mexican families strive to create a better life and legacy for their families after immigrating to the United States.  

Tues., Oct. 11 - “Loghmeh”:
Two women of Middle Eastern descent reach back into their heritage to create culinary experiences for their communities. 

Tues., Oct. 18 - “Banchan”:
In Koreatown, the family behind Jun Won Restaurant faces the challenge of preserving the business they’ve built over two decades when they’re forced to close.
