Independent Musicians Talk Climate Change and Environment as Part of KCET’s ‘Summer of the Environment’
BURBANK, Calif. – August 9, 2017 – KCET, the nation’s largest public television station, today announced a new season of ARTBOUND PRESENTS STUDIO A as part of its “Summer of the Environment” initiative that includes leading music artists Aloe Blacc, Low Leaf, Buyepongo and MILCK who support and draw inspiration from environmental causes. ARTBOUND PRESENTS STUDIO A airs on Tues., Aug. 22 at 10 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California.
The original music series showcases top musical talent with international appeal, reflecting the diversity of the region through the cultural backgrounds and musical influences of some of Southern California's most prolific artists. This season brings a variety of musical influences to the forefront: Latin, Jazz, Pop, R&B, Folk, Soul and even classical piano and harp music. ARTBOUND PRESENTS STUDIO A captures the essence of Los Angeles' musical melting pot. ARTBOUND PRESENTS STUDIO A premiered on KCET in 2014. The series reflects the diversity of the region through the cultural backgrounds and musical influences of some of Southern California's most prolific artists.

Aloe Blacc – Tues., Aug. 22
With his new single “King Is Born”, Aloe Blacc gives us all a taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming album, pushing further into a folk/soul/pop fusion that's both undeniably joyful and eye-opening in message. Adding an of-the-moment twist to the music of legends like Sly Stone and Stevie Wonder, his catalogue is built on songs that pair Blacc's poetic yet incisive lyrics with huge hooks and relentless feel-good grooves.
Low Leaf – Tues., Aug. 29
Low Leaf is a Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer and producer. She creates her own unique sound by combining the classical piano training of her childhood with her own self-taught harp, guitar and heartfelt singing. She ultimately seeks to be a voice of both nature and her Filipino ancestors alike, in hopes to heal and re-awaken the world as a universal family.
Buyepongo – Tues., Sept. 5
The name Buyepongo means “to cause a ruckus” –which certainly describes the scene on the dance floors of Los Angeles whenever the band launches into its dizzyingly energetic, instantly infectious rhythms. But it also describes Buyepongo’s riotous mash-up of influences, which absorbs hip-hop, punk, funk, and jazz sounds into a delirious tropical blend of styles from across the Latin American diaspora.
MILCK – Tues., Sept. 12
Cathartic singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, poet and social activist MILCK performs an intimate set that includes her viral song “Quiet,” which has become the unofficial anthem to the resistance after a global reaction to her performance at the Women’s March. “Quiet” provided a post-election call for people of all races, creeds, and colors who have suffered and survived gallantly in the face of trauma, trials, and tribulations with resounding piano chords and shuddering, soulful delivery.
To date, ARTBOUND PRESENTS STUDIO A has featured taped live performances and interviews from Chicano Batman, Best Coast, Run River North, Noah and the Megafauna, Chelsea Wolfe, The Internet, Deap Vally and more. The series is committed to helping curate a more vibrant independent and emerging music scene and giving a voice to the wide range of extraordinary talent in the city.
