New Link TV Documentary Series Explores Everyday People Connecting to Create Change

Burbank, Calif. – January 27, 2017 – Link TV, a national independent public satellite television network, announced today a new documentary series, ACTIVISM IN PROGRESS, which tells the stories of activists creating change in their cities across the globe. This unique new slate of documentaries will offer viewers the opportunity to see how immigration, environmental and social activists create change, fighting for the rights and lives of their fellow citizens. The February lineup takes viewers around the world with films that take place in the brickyards of Calcutta, the unforgiving desert of the Arizona/Mexico border and the slowly sinking Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean.

Activism in Progress: THE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISTS - Sun. Feb. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and Dish Network 9410).
Amlan Ganguly empowers children to become activists and educators, with powerful results. THE REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISTS follows him as he attempts to replicate his work in the brickfields outside Calcutta, where children live and work in unimaginable conditions. Using street theater, puppetry and dance as their weapons, the children in the city’s slums have cut their neighborhoods’ disease rate in half and turned former garbage dumps into playing fields.

Border patrol agents, Native Americans, smugglers, ranchers, retirees and Samaritans form a constellation of people engaged with the Arizona/Mexico border on a daily basis – policing it, inhabiting it, crossing it, working it, making it safer or simply feeling its consequences. But at the center of it all is the migrant. THE UNDOCUMENTED tells the story of the migrants who die while trying to cross an unforgiving desert in search of a better life.

President Mihamed Nasheed is trying to prevent 385,000 people from drowning as his nation of 1,200 low lying islands, the Maldives, is sinking into the Indian Ocean due to global warming. Climate change experts say that some of the islands will be submerged within 20 years, threatening the lives of the largely impoverished inhabitants as well as inundating the lavish resorts that dot the islands. With a contingency plan to move his entire population to a new homeland, Nasheed conducts emergency discussions with Sri Lanka and Australia, and does all he can to slow the course of the climate crisis.
