Flagship News Series SOCAL CONNECTED Outpaces Record from Last Year
Earning 27 Nominations

Burbank, Calif.May 16, 2019The Public Media Group of Southern California (PMGSC), formed by the merger of PBS SoCal and KCETLink Media Group, announced today that it received a total of 56 nominations for the 61st annual Southern California Journalism Awards presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. The tally ranks PMGSC and its content channels KCET and PBS SoCal as earning more nominations than all local television stations combined and the second highest number of nominations (after the Los Angeles Times) of any other Southern California media organization.

The organization’s nominations include a record-breaking 27 (up from 24 last year) for the acclaimed news program SOCAL CONNECTED in categories such as “Television Journalist of the Year” for the series’ Executive Producer Karen Foshay, “Talk/Public Affairs Program,” and “Animation Moving Graphic” for the show’s “Immigration 101” digital initiative. KCET’s multi-media arts and culture series ARTBOUND received 17 nominations, both for digital content and on-air episodes from Season Nine of the series.

Also nominated are KCET’s historical series LOST LA, produced in conjunction with the USC Libraries, CITY RISING, SOCAL WANDERER, EARTH FOCUS and THE MIGRANT KITCHEN. Included in the “Feature Documentary” category was PBS SoCal’s FINDING HOME: A FOSTER YOUTH STORY, part of a special multi-platform social impact initiative that raises awareness about the challenges faced by transition-age foster youth in Los Angeles.

The 2019 Southern California Journalism Awards will be presented on Sunday, June 30 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
