BURBANK, Calif. – January 21, 2020 – KCET, Southern California's home for award-winning public media programming, announced today the launch of a crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo for the PBS channel’s popular online and on-air series SOCAL WANDERER which explores local hidden gems and wonders with adventurous host Rosey Alvero who examines the rich history, culture and landscape of the region by connecting with engaged enthusiasts and experts. The 30-day campaign to raise $10,000 will support production costs of producing a digital episode and interactive guide of the series targeting the often overlooked LA River, where there is actually plenty to do, from hiking and kayaking to biking, birding and enjoying great food.
The LA River has seen a renaissance of activity recently and people are embracing its natural glory and diving into the fun things it has to offer. 51-miles long, the River crosses through many different communities and has a rich and interesting history. In addition to fun and recreation, the soon-to-be-produced digital episode of SOCAL WANDERER will look at the ecological, historical and social aspects of the LA River, while raising important questions about its future. KCET has long been a trusted source of expert insight into the River's revival and as a result, has curated an extensive collection of editorial content and produced several documentaries over the last decade related to the topic.
