Burbank, Calif. - March

25, 2014 - KCET, the nation's largest independent television

station serving Southern and Central California, will offer viewers a diverse,

new slate of programming this spring, including thought-provoking documentaries

and exciting, new episodes of KCET's highly-rated programs!

Men Who Made Us Fat - Beginning Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 8 p.m.

On Wednesdays, beginning April 2 at 8

p.m., KCET premieres the three-part documentary series, Men Who Made Us Fat. In this highly intriguing BBC series ,

journalist Jacques Peretti traces those responsible for revolutionizing our

eating habits. Around the world, obesity levels are rising. More people are now

overweight than undernourished; two thirds of British adults are overweight and

one in four of us is classified as obese. Peretti travels to America to

investigate the story of high-fructose corn syrup; explores the history of the

supersized fast food meal and other promotional tactics; and goes behind

marketing and how companies can seduce consumers into buying supposed 'healthy

foods'. Men Who Made Us Fat offers a

candid look on how healthy our society really is.  The series will air each Wednesday night for

three weeks.

New Tricks - Beginning Monday, April 7, 2014 at 8 p.m.

One of the BBC's

highest rating drama series, New Tricks,

premieres first-run episodes on KCET beginning Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m. The

team of grumpy retired coppers, Superintendent Sandra Pullman and her Unsolved

Crime and Open Case Squad of Lane, Standing and Halford, are back on the job

again, working at the London Metropolitan Police as civilians investigating

unsolved crimes and cold cases. Facing the team this time around are cases that

include the suspected suicide of a witness to an air crash outside an American

military base; a pleasure cruise disaster on the Thames and the disappearance

of a young political activist and her boyfriend.

Pain, Pus and Poison - Beginning Monday, April 7, 2014 at 9 p.m.

Beginning Monday, April 7 at 9 p.m.,

another BBC mini-series,

Pain Pus and

Poison

, debuts on KCET. The program that proves that what doesn't kill you

can make you stronger. Science has unlocked the human body, enabling us to

survive diseases and infections. Experts have discovered antidotes by using the

poisons themselves as a cure; the most poisonous toxin known to man - Botulinum

- is now used as an Anti-wrinkle drug called Botox. Scorpion venom is even

being tested for the treatment of life threatening diseases. From the history

of aspirin to antibiotics, public television presenter Michael Mosley is our

guide to this fascinating three-part series, airing Monday nights at 9 p.m.

through April 21.

Globe Trekker - Beginning Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 9 p.m.

Beginning Tuesday, April 8 at 9 p.m.

is a brand new season of Globe Trekker.

This exhilarating travel series transports

viewers to unforgettable destinations through its stunning photography,

rhythmic indigenous music and spirit of adventure. Now in its 13th

season, Globe Trekker features

journeys to Myanmar, Central Japan and the great hiking trails of Australia, and

explorations of the "Story of Tea" and the cuisines of Sicily and

Ireland.
