KCET Claims Quarterly Primetime Ratings Win For the First Time Since 2010

With Top Primetime Position Among All Local Area Public TV Stations, KCET Demonstrates Year over Year Gains While Closing Gap in Whole Day

BURBANK, Calif.July 6, 2017 – KCETLink Media Group, the national independent broadcast and digital media network, has released 2nd Quarter 2017 household ratings showing that its independent public television station, KCET is the leading public broadcaster in Primetime in Southern California for the first time in over six years since its departure from the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), according to Nielsen Media Research. The independent station came out ahead in the Nielsen measurement by a 4% margin over west coast flagship PBS affiliate, PBS SoCal (KOCE) for that quarterly time period. Also in 2nd Quarter 2017, KCET’s household audience was at least 20% higher than any other public broadcaster in Southern California in the expanded Access / Primetime time period.

KCET’s Primetime household ratings in 2nd Quarter (April, May and June) 2017 jumped 33% compared to 2nd Quarter 2016.  In addition KCET saw:

  • A 20% increase in Primetime over its 1st Quarter 2017 performance
  • A 33% growth in Whole Day ratings for 2nd Quarter 2017 over the same quarter in 2016
  • A 60% increase in Primetime over 4th Quarter 2016
