KCET CONTRIBUTES LOCAL NEWS COVERAGE ON THE

TOP INTERNATIONAL STORIES OF 2011

December 23, 2011---KCET, the nation's largest independent public television station serving Southern and Central California with 2.8 million viewers, has announced that through its strategic partnerships with top global news partners and its own local production of news specials, it's been able to air quality coverage of the world's top breaking stories in 2011 to the Southern California community.

According to The Year In News report by the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism released this week, the top news stories of the year included the economy, the Japanese earthquake/tsunami, the 2012 presidential election, Middle East unrest, Osama bin Laden and health care, among others.

With daily feeds from BBC, Al Jazeera, NHK and IBA, KCET was able to air breaking stories on all these critical issues affecting the Southland's global community through its international news block from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. unique to Southern California.

In addition, the station presented specials on its hard-hitting news magazine SoCal Connected on how these issues affected our local community, including:
