Download Press ReleaseLos Angeles -- April 14, 2011 -- KCET, independent public media for Southern and Central California, captures the pulse of an increasingly wired world in a new primetime special, Global Watch with internationally acclaimed writer and political commentator, Reza Aslan -- Thursday April 14 at 9:30 p.m. and Friday April 15 at 9:30 p.m.Aslan, whose bestselling books have been translated into many languages, takes on key world issues, including politics, markets and technology. From fear of radiation to Americans fighting in three wars, Global Watch helps you understand what's happening far beyond our borders into the global community and how it directly affects us at home.
"Our goal at Global Watch is to create informed and intelligent viewers who can truly be called citizens of the globe," said Bret Marcus, senior vice president and chief content officer for KCET.
The half-hour program orbits the worldwide web as Global Watch dissects the Facebook Revolution and Skypes with some of the Middle East's most influential "youthquake" bloggers. Aslan also provokes thoughtful discussion with in-studio guests that include academics, activists and technologists.
In one segment, Aslan gets his computer hacked by Executive Director of Censorship Research Center Austin Heap, who discusses the issues surrounding governmental censorship and the mounting fear of the free flow of information.
Global Watch is the latest program in KCET's arsenal of robust news programming that includes Al Jazeera English News, BBC World News America, NHK from Japan, IBA from Israel and the award-winning SoCal Connected.
