4, 2011 - KCET expands its international news offerings with the addition of a

daily one-hour block of morning newscasts beginning on Monday, March 7, with BBC World News, airing Monday through

Friday at 6:00 a.m., and

Al Jazeera

English News

, airing daily at 6:30 a.m. Encore broadcasts of BBC Newsnight will air Saturday and

Sunday mornings at 6:00 a.m. The move continues KCET's commitment to providing

international news from some of the world's most respected newsgathering

organizations.

In response to

the uprisings in the Mideast, KCET began airing BBC World News (5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.)

and NHK Newsline (5:30 p.m.); Al Jazeera English News (4:00 p.m. and

6:30 p.m.) and Israeli Broadcast Authority's Al Jazeera English News live at 11:00 p.m.  

"KCET is

offering international news three times a day in response to growing audience

demand," said Bret Marcus, KCET Senior Vice President and Chief Content

Officer. "With what's going on in the world right now, that diverse reporting -

from BBC, Al Jazeera Live, NHK and IBA-- is vitally important to our viewers. KCET

is pleased to bring our audience another access point with early-morning

broadcasts of BBC World News and Al Jazeera English News."
