KCET to Air Award-Winning Independent News Program 'Democracy Now!' in February
Burbank, Calif. - Jan. 21, 2014 - KCET, the nation's largest independent public television
station serving Southern and Central California, announced Democracy Now!, the national, daily, independent, award-winning news program
hosted by journalists Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, will begin airing each
weekday, beginning Tuesday, February 4 at 9 a.m.
The program's "War and Peace Report" provides viewers with access to people and
perspectives rarely heard in mainstream media, including independent and
international journalists, ordinary people from around the world who are
directly affected by U.S. foreign policy, grassroots leaders, peace activists,
artists, academics and independent analysts.
Both Time Magazine and NBC'sMeet the
Press
named Democracy Now! as a top podcast for news andinformation. The series, airing on more than 1,100 pubic television and radio
stations worldwide, has won many prestigious industry awards including, an
Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award and the 2012 Gandhi Peace Award.
As host and executive producer, Goodman is the first
journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the
'Alternative Nobel Prize' for "developing an innovative model of truly
independent grassroots political journalism that brings millions of people the
alternative voices that are often excluded by the mainstream media." She is the
first co-recipient of the Park Center for Independent Media's Izzy Award, named
for the great muckraking journalist I.F. Stone. Her fifth book,The
