KCET Wins Three 2019 National Arts & Entertainment Awards Presented by the Los Angeles Press Club

KCET Originals ARTBOUND, LOST LA and SOCAL CONNECTED Honored
 

Burbank, Calif.Dec. 2, 2019 KCET, a producer of award-winning and diverse original content for public media, announced today that three of its KCET Original series were honored by the LA Press Club at the 2019 National Arts and Entertainment Awards. Arts and culture series ARTBOUND episode “Heath Ceramics: The Making of a California Classic won first-place recognition in the Documentary or Special Program Feature (over 30 minutes) category as well as in the Music/Art/Culture Personality Profile category for Jennifer Volland’s profile on iconic American designer Edith Heath. While LOST LA, produced in conjunction with the USC Libraries, was named as the winner of the Soft News Feature (under 5 minutes) category for the short video “The Origin of the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour” from the season three episode “Fantasyland.” The 12th annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards were presented on Sun., Dec. 1 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.
 

In addition to its three wins, KCET received a second-place recognition in the Soft News Feature (over five minutes) category for “Jazz City” from investigative local news series SOCAL CONNECTED. While ARTBOUND scored two more second-place recognitions in the Arts and Entertainment Feature category for “Los Angeles’s Role in the Rise and Mainstreaming of Gospel Music” and the Personality Profile category for “Open Your Eyes: Lula Washington Dance Theatre.”
 

Third-place recognitions were also announced for the ARTBOUND documentary “Masters of Modern Design: The Art of the Japanese American Experience” in the Documentary or Special Program Feature (over 30 minutes) category as well as for SOCAL CONNECTED’s “L.A. Jazz Never Went Away, But Now It's on The World Stage” in the Hard News Feature (over five minutes) category.

Judges’ comment: The portrait of ceramic designer Edith Heath as a visionary, teacher, and early environmentalist who made practical, yet artistic, dinnerware to last for all people is a wonderful exploration of the impact one woman has made on the arts.
