KCETLink Brings Attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month

With Inspiring Docudrama THE C WORD On Oct. 7

Based on True Story of Blogger/Author Lisa Lynch, Who Came to Terms With Diagnosis Through Writing

KCETLink Partners with Breast Cancer Organizations Beyond Boobs! And Pink-Link to Spread Awareness and Connect Viewers With an Educational Resource

BURBANK, Calif. - Sept. 17, 2015 - KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent, non-profit, public broadcast and digital network, commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness Month by debuting the inspirational docudrama THE C WORD, premiering Wed., Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on KCET (Southern California) and on Link TV (DirecTV 375 and DISH 9410).

THE C WORD is based on the true story of British blogger and author Lisa Lynch, who started the blog "Alright Tit" as an outlet to cope with her terminal breast cancer diagnoses at the age of 28. Lynch's blog--in which she displays both her wit and courage-- ultimately became the 2010 book The C Word. The film is an adaptation of her best-selling book with a screenplay by Nicole Taylor, capturing the no-nonsense and lively style of Lynch's writing and personality. The upbeat and brutally honest film shares Lynch's story from her initial breast cancer diagnosis, subsequent remission and then her passing after the cancer reoccurred. Prior to her death, Lynch worked closely with friend and actressSheridan Smith, who portrays Lynch in the film.

In order to amplify the powerful effect that sharing stories can have on young women suffering from breast cancer, KCETLink has partnered with Beyond Boobs! and Pink- Link. Audiences nationwide will be given the opportunity to access educational resources by going online to kcet.org or LinkTV.organd accessing links to each organization.

The film's upbeat tone and focus on young women perfectly align with each organization's mission to support and empower women affected by breast cancer and provide motivating breast health education for all. Beyond Boobs! and Pink-Link provide invaluable services through "not-your-typical support" offered both in person and online, educate and connect women, and share inspiring stories that encourage and motivate women to take charge of their health.

THE C WORD will air under KCETLink's LINK VOICES umbrella, the weekly series of diverse, provocative documentaries that inform, inspire and challenge viewers to impact change. KCET and Link TV offer additional social media engagement @KCET and @LinkTV on Facebook.com/KCET28 andFacebook.com/LinkTV as well as Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag: #LinkVoices.

THE C WORD is also available for online streaming for two weeks following the broadcast premiere nationally at https://www.linktv.org/programs/link-voices-the-c-word and to the LA DMA athttp://www.kcet.org/shows/link_voices/the-c-word.html.
