Burbank, Calif. – March 1, 2017 – KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, announced today a new slate of documentaries that tells the stories of musicians, activists and dreamers across the globe that will premiere over the course of the upcoming month. As part of the LINK VOICES documentary strand, KCETLink will air a series of documentaries that includes “Los Wild Ones,” a behind-the-scenes look at music producer Reb Kennedy and the artists on his LA indie label Wild Records, composed of young Hispanic musicians who write and perform a hybrid of rockabilly and punk rock. Additional documentaries in the March lineup of the Wednesday night LINK VOICES series follow female speed racers in the middle east, the 2008 financial crash, a 14 year old girl’s record breaking sail around the world and one woman’s crusade against the act of declawing cats.

LINK VOICES provides viewers with a unique collection of documentaries that showcases a variety of global perspectives, untold stories and regional flavors. This impactful documentary series features compelling topics expressed by the people closest to the issues. LINK VOICES is telecast Wednesdays at 9 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California and at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (Channel 375 on DirecTV and Channel 9410 on Dish Network).

ACTIVISM IN PROGRESS will continue on Link TV with a series of documentaries that tell the stories of individuals across the globe, fighting for change. The March lineup will explore the flaws in the healthcare system and how it affects one Oakland hospital, children from Bekoji literally running toward a better future, marginalized families from Chile who are dropped into a middle class neighborhood and a group of high school girls who attend a radical high school in the forest of Paraguay. The series will continue to offer viewers the opportunity to see how immigration, environmental and social activists create change, fighting for the rights and lives of their fellow citizens. ACTIVISM IN PROGRESS can be seen Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (Channel 375 on DirecTV and Channel 9410 on Dish Network).

THE SPEED SISTERS are the first all-woman racecar driving team in the Middle East. Grabbing headlines and turning heads at improvised tracks across the West Bank, these five women have sped their way into the heart of the gritty, male-dominated Palestinian street car-racing scene. Weaving together their lives on and off the track, SPEED SISTERS goes on a surprising journey into the drive to go further and faster than anyone thought possible. Program is available for streaming for 14 days after telecast.

Highland Hospital, a vital part of the city of Oakland and the surrounding county, is stretched to the breaking point. It is the primary care facility for 250,000 patients of nearly every nationality, race and religion with approximately 250 patients crowding its emergency room every day. THE WAITING ROOM is an immersive documentary film, which weaves together several stories that unfold in surprising ways. It is an intimate rendering of the story of our health care system at the moment of great change told through the eyes of people stuck waiting – sometimes for up to 14 hours.

INSIDE JOB provides a comprehensive analysis of the global financial crisis of 2008, which at a cost of over $20 trillion, caused millions of people to lose their jobs and homes in the worst recession since the Great Depression nearly resulting in a global financial collapse. Through exhaustive research and extensive interviews with key financial insiders, politicians, journalists and academics, the film traces the rise of a rogue industry which has corrupted politics, regulation and academia. Program is available for streaming for seven days after telecast.

Activism in Progress: TOWN OF RUNNERS - Sun., Mar. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and Dish Network 9410)

TOWN OF RUNNERS follows three children from Bekoji, Ethiopia keen to follow in their heroes’ footsteps, as they move from school track to national competition and from childhood to adulthood. Set against the background of the seasonal rhythms of this farming region and the impact of increased urbanization on agriculture, the film shows rural young Africans striving to make their own futures. Program is available for streaming for seven days after telecast.

Fourteen-year-old Laura Dekker sets out – camera in hand – on a two year voyage in pursuit of her dream to be the youngest person ever to sail around the world alone. In the wake of a year-long battle with Dutch authorities that sparked a global storm of media scrutiny, Dekker finds herself far from land, family and unwanted attention, exploring the world in search of freedom, adventure and distant dreams of her early youth at sea. Program available for streaming for 14 days after telecast.

Activism in Progress: 74 SQUARE METERS - Sun., Mar. 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and Dish Network 9410)

150 marginalized families from Valparaiso, Chile, are chosen to participate in a social experiment that moves them into a middle-class neighborhood. But their new neighbors consider them delinquents who would endanger the neighborhood. Filmed over the course of four years, 74 SQUARE METERS explores what happens when two worlds collide, and looks at the struggles of attaining one’s dreams. Program is available for streaming for 7 days after telecast.

The award-winning SXSW film follows the semi-dysfunctional yet extremely tight-knit family of Irishman Reb Kennedy and the young Hispanic rockabilly musicians on his indie music label Wild Records.  The artists include young Hispanic musicians who write and perform ‘50’s style rock n’ roll that insiders call a hybrid of rockabilly and punk rock.  Raw and unfiltered, the film delivers an honest look at the label’s ethos and unconventional family. Program is available for streaming for 14 days after telecast.

Activism in Progress: DAUGHTERS OF THE FOREST - Sun., Mar. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and Dish Network 9410)

DAUGHTERS OF THE FOREST tells the powerful, uplifting story of a small group of girls in one of the most remote forests left on earth that attend a radical high school where they learn to protect the threatened forest and forge a better future for themselves. Set in the untamed wilds of the Mbaracayu Reserve in rural Paraguay, this intimate verite documentary offers a rare glimpse of a disappearing world where timid girls grow into brave young women even as they are transformed by their unlikely friendships with one another. Program is available for streaming for 7 days after telecast.

Link Voices: PAW PROJECT - Wed., Mar. 29 at 9 p.m. PT/ET on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and Dish Network 9410)

The tale of veterinarian Jennifer Conrad and her crusade to repair captive Hollywood big cats’ paws from devastating results of de-clawing, plus her campaign against the standard practice of de-clawing domestic house cats in California. Program is available for streaming for 30 days after telecast.
