Thomson Reuters Foundation Signs On As Lead Content Partner
Link TV's Former Flagship Program MOSAIC will be first GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES video series debuting online today with fresh new format and premiering as a television pilot on Link TV and KCET Oct. 27
BURBANK, Calif. - October 21, 2015 - KCETLink Media Group announced today the LinkTV.org launch of GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES, a digital-first programming initiative that curates critically acclaimed short-form documentaries from around the world. With videos sourced from more than 50 global organizations and independent producers, Thomson Reuters Foundation will act as the lead content partner for the platform.
Video content will launch online daily and span a variety of compelling topics ranging from arts and culture to social issues and lifestyles. Based on their level of audience engagement, some of the programs will then be produced as broadcast pilots to air on Link TV and KCET.
"With Global Perspectives, we are aggregating storytelling around poignant issues from around the world to share with our audiences both online and on air," said Juan Devis, senior vice president, content, development and production. "By offering these unique videos in a web-first environment, we can see what's resonating and then bring those stories to six million homes in Southern California, and 35 million homes nationally."
Launching online today will be the first segment of former Link TV flagship series MOSAIC, a Peabody Award-winning global news and issues-driven series. The new MOSAIC will monitor and collect news and current affairs from around the world, starting with Asia. Unlike a conventional newscast, MOSAICwill be responsive to online sources and independent voices, utilizing a web-first news gathering framework and network, to create a new kind of international news coverage for TV, online and mobile.
MOSAIC debuts with "China Dream," a look how Chinese President Xi Jinping's 2012 call for "rejuvenation of the nation" impacts Chinese intellectuals, millennials who are studying in the U.S., migrant workers in China, and an entrepreneur in Africa. MOSAIC is scheduled to air as a broadcast pilot Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. in Southern California on KCET and nationally at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV via DirecTV (375) and DISH Network (375).
