Regional News Series SOCAL CONNECTED Named Best News Public Affairs Program and Best News Special; Environmental Documentary TENDING THE WILD Also Honored For Best Documentary
Burbank, Calif. - Jan. 29, 2018 - KCETLink, the national independent public media organization, is proud to announce that it has received three Golden Mike awards for the 68th annual Golden Mike Awards presented by the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California (RTNA).
KCET’s weekly flagship news series now in its eighth season, SOCAL CONNECTED, was named Best News Public Affairs Program for its “Environmental Justice” episode which explored local lead-contaminated communities and the effects of the Chiquita Canyon landfill. In addition, SOCAL CONNECTED won for Best News Special for "The Way Home: A SoCal Connected News Special” which tackled the issue of homelessness in Los Angeles.
The one-hour KCETLink environmental special “Tending the Wild”, produced in partnership with the Autry Museum of the American West, won Best Documentary for the exploration of California Native Peoples’ traditions and how they can inform responses to present day environmental dilemmas.
Formally announced at the awards ceremony at the Universal Hilton in Universal City on Jan. 27, 2018, the Golden Mike Awards® recognize excellence in broadcast journalism.
