KCETLink Receives National Endowment for the Arts Grant To Support Transmedia Arts and Culture Series, ARTBOUND
Grant one of 886 NEA Art Works grants
Totaling $25.8 million in funding nationwide
Burbank,
CA
-April 17, 2014 - National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa
announced today that KCETLink is one of 886 nonprofit organizations nationwide
to receive an NEA Art Works grant as part of the second half of its fiscal year
2014 funding. KCETLink is recommended for a $75,000 grant to support the
station's award-winning transmedia arts and culture journalism
series, ARTBOUND. This is the second grant ARTBOUND has received from the
NEA.
ARTBOUND, KCET's
transmedia arts and culture series, bridges the divide between online and
television audiences, taking viewers on a journey through the arts and cultural
landscape of Southern California. Through articles, essays, and thinkpieces
published online by more than 50 contributors in 11 counties, ARTBOUND'S
correspondents cover cultural happenings in the communities where they live,
providing an inside look at art across the region. The ARTBOUND audience votes
online for an article to be made into a short online video. These documentaries
are then assembled into an hour-long episode.
NEA Acting Chairman Shigekawa said,
"The NEA is pleased to announce that KCETLink is recommended for an NEA
Art Works grant. These NEA-supported projects will not only have a positive
impact on local economies, but will also provide opportunities for people of
all ages to participate in the arts, help our communities to become more
vibrant, and support our nation's artists as they contribute to our cultural
landscape."
"We are thrilled to be recommended for an NEA
Art Works grant for ARTBOUND," said Juan Devis, VP of Arts and Culture Programming,
KCETLink. "With the support of this grant, we will continue to provide innovative arts journalism for
the region and create new ways of engaging with our communities."
Art Works grants support the creation
of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with
diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of
the livability of communities through the arts.
The NEA received 1,515 eligible applications under the Art Works
category, requesting more than $76 million in funding. Of those applications,
886 are recommended for grants for a total of $25.8 million.
