BURBANK, Calif.April 7, 2017 - KCETLink Media Group announced today that the national independent, non-profit digital and broadcast network hopes to make a big splash this year when it returns to the annual Los Angeles Times Festival of Books with KCET and Link TV network talent appearances, special giveaways and top-of-the-hour raffles. Additionally, a morning “Show & Tell” with the sea anemone, a cousin of the coral species, will take place thanks to a partnership with the LA Conservation Corp’s SEA Lab program to promote a special KCET initiative dedicated to saving the world’s coral reefs. This year’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books will take place on Sat., April 22 and Sun., April 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Saturday) and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Sunday) at the USC campus in downtown Los Angeles.  KCETLink’s Booth is #959 in Alumni Park near the LA Times Stage.

The lineup of activities at the KCETLink booth over both days kicks off each morning with a live presentation by SEA Lab from 10 a.m. to noon providing families with an opportunity to learn about saving the coral reefs and the coral themselves, as well as touch tanks featuring a close relative of coral – the sea anemone. This interactive “Show & Tell” experience with the live sea creatures helps promote two upcoming documentaries that explore coral reefs, one of the most valuable ecosystems on earth. First, EARTH FOCUS “Vanishing Coral” premieres on Tues., Apr. 18 at 8:30 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California and Link TV Nationwide (DirecTV 374 and DISH Network 9410), with encore airings on Tues. Apr. 25 on KCET and Sat. Apr. 22 on Link TV. Additionally, the program will be available for streaming on kcet.org/coral and linktv.org/coral.  Then, BLUE PLANET “Coral Seas” makes its KCET debut on Tues., April 18 at 9 p.m. PT for Southern California viewers, with an encore broadcast on Sun., Apr. 23 at 4 p.m.

Saturday afternoon from 1 – 3 p.m., Luis Fuerte, Huell Howser’s long-time cameraman, will be at the booth to sign and promote his new book, Louie, Take a Look at This!: My Time With Huell Howser, in which Fuerte shares his adventures with Howser and offers insights into the iconic Golden State explorer.  Those who arrive at the booth by 1 p.m. will have a chance to win a copy of the book or special edition maps featuring landmarks from Howser’s iconic shows including CALIFORNIA’S GOLD.  KCET will host a special edition of CALIFORNIA’S GOLD on Sat. May 6 at 7 p.m. featuring three back-to back episodes that highlight our state’s National Parks.

Both Saturday and Sunday starting at 12 noon, the KCETLink booth will offer top-of-the-hour afternoon raffles and giveaways that include chances to win a family four-pack of tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, exclusive KCET hats, Link TV canvas bags, KCET car shades, Link TV personal journals, KCET wine totes and more.

As part of the EARTH FOCUS “Vanishing Coral” promotion, information will be distributed at the KCETLink booth on how to enter an online sweepstakes (kcet.org/australia) offering one lucky winner and their guest round-trip airfare to Australia courtesy of Air New Zealand and an opportunity to visit the Great Barrier Reef.

Emmy® Award-winning SOCAL CONNECTED Anchor and Executive Producer Val Zavala will be at the booth Sunday morning. Two of the series’ reporters, Nic Cha Kim and Cara Santa Maria, will also make guest appearances at the booth on Sunday afternoon (schedules permitting) to discuss the series and this summer’s upcoming SOCAL CONNECTED environmental specials.
