Burbank, Calif. –Nov. 21, 2017 – KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, announced today that The California Endowment, under its Building Healthy Communities campaign, has awarded a $600,000 two year grant to produce additional programming for the public media network’s multi-platform documentary series CITY RISING that raises awareness around critical community issues in California, such as gentrification and health equity.
The grant will fund 10 new short-form video segments with accompanying news stories to appear on kcet.org and linktv.org, as well as the televised CITY RISING documentaries to be broadcast annually in 2018 and 2019.

CITY RISING debuted in September 2017 uncovering how gentrification is deeply rooted in a history of discriminatory laws and practices in the United States. The series explored the six communities of Long Beach, Santa Ana, Sacramento, Oakland, Oak Park, and South LA, giving a voice to the residents, activists and urban planners who have identified gentrification as a primary concern. CITY RISING brought to life the struggles those underserved residents face on a daily basis to keep their homes, and the activists who helped support their rights.
