Los Angeles, CA - January 19, 2013 - The award-winning SoCal Connected gets political this week with a report on President Barack Obama's second official inauguration on Tuesday; an analysis of the State of the State; and a broadcast of the Los Angeles mayoral debate on Friday, moderated by KCET's own Val Zavala and sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Los Angeles and Communities United for Smart Growth.

MONDAY, January 21
In honor of MLK Day, this special edition will be divided into three separate discussions: demographics and politics, arts & entertainment, and "post-racial America." Expert panelists focus on what the reelection of President Obama signifies in terms of the country's racial tolerance; the state of African American political power in light of the growing Latino population; the image of African Americans in the entertainment industry; and whether we are moving toward a post-racial society.
TUESDAY, January 22
Correspondent Brian Rooney recaps the events and significance of Barack Obama's official inauguration, followed by an interview between Val Zavala and USC Communications professor Tom Hollihan, who speaks about the politics and symbolism of inaugural traditions.
WEDNESDAY, January 23
Homelessness continues to be a growing issue in Southern California, especially in the city of Los Angeles. SoCal Connected host Val Zavala speaks with TruthDig political correspondent and former Los Angeles Times city editor Bill Boyarsky about whether the Los Angeles mayoral candidates are addressing homelessness at all.
THURSDAY, January 24
In addition to airing the live telecast at 9 a.m. PST, SoCal Connected will provide a post-speech analysis of California Gov. Gerry Brown's address. This one hour 'State of the State' special will air at 5:30 p.m. & 10 p.m. during SoCal Connected's regular evening time periods. A panel consisting of journalist, author, and radio-television personality Patt Morrison and political journalist Joe Mathews will discuss and debate the Governor's plan in light of California's pressing problems

FRIDAY, January 25
In another one-hour special, SoCal Connected will air the Los Angeles mayoral debate, hosted by the League of Women Voters and moderated by KCET's own Val Zavala in an abridged format at 5:30 p.m. A full version will be available after the debate is completed at www.socalconnected.org.
