Documentary ‘BUD GREENSPAN REMEMBERS: THE 1984 OLYMPICS’
Shows Legendary Journalist Reflecting on Los Angeles’ Historic Games
Burbank, Calif. – July 29, 2016 – Southern California’s KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, will telecast a classic Olympic documentary and host a comprehensive online destination paying homage to the past and looking toward the future in support of the world’s greatest unified athletic competition. With a focus on the Olympic Games’ storied relationship with the city of Los Angeles, the online web hub KCET.org/Olympics will host a unique collection of Olympic Games-related content to complement the documentary special on the famed 1984 games.
BUD GREENSPAN REMEMBERS: THE 1984 OLYMPICS
Premieres Fri., Aug. 12, at 9 p.m. PT
This documentary chronicles the highlights of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games held in Los Angeles.
Amidst global tensions with the Soviet Union and Cuba boycotting the event, Romania defied the boycott and participated, as did the Republic of China. The host country, the United States, led all countries in total gold medals received, including accolades for Carl Lewis, Valerie Brisco-Hooks, Mary Lou Retton, Edwin Moses, Joan Benoit-Samuelson and many others. Bud Greenspan was internationally known for his humanistic approach to Olympic filmmaking earning eight Emmy® Awards, a Peabody and was the recipient of an Olympic Order, the International Olympic Committee’s highest award. In 2004 he was inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame as a special contributor. BUD GREENSPAN REMEMBERS: THE 1984 OLYMPICS will be available for streaming at KCET.org/Olympics.
