BURBANK, Calif.Oct. 7, 2016KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, which includes both Southern California's KCET public television service as well as the Link TV national satellite network, announced today a new lineup of politically themed documentaries and news specials that will run during the week leading up to national election day on Nov. 8. Offering an alternative perspective to the coverage by mainstream U.S. media, the special lineup of programming comes from around the globe from trusted, objective sources.

On Tues., Nov. 8, from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m., Link TV (available to viewers nationwide on DirecTV 375 and DISH Network 9410), will host a five-hour election night special edition of DEMOCRACY NOW! featuring live updates on election results, with analysis and discussion by leading pundits. The special aims to offer viewers varied but verifiable perspectives on the world that allow for an informed audience to make up their own minds. DEMOCRACY NOW! airs daily on KCET in Southern California at 7 a.m. PT and on Link TV nationwide at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT  & 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT

A new episode of Link TV’s award-winning and acclaimed MOSAIC series will look at how the world is watching the US elections, from the perspectives of international broadcasters like the BBC, China State Television and Russian TV, interviews with foreign reporters as well as a view from people on the street. Offering a global pulse on the presidential campaign, this half-hour special edition of MOSAIC airs Tues., Nov. 1 at 8:30 p.m. PT and Fri., Nov. 4 at 8:30 p.m. PT on KCET and Link TV as well as online at LinkTV.org/mosaic.

Additionally, KCET has scheduled a slate of election-related documentaries to run leading up to November 8 that includes the following (*subject to change):

Tues., Nov. 1, 7 p.m.

Bombs Away: LBJ, Goldwater and the 1964 Campaign –Historians chronicle the 1964 Presidential campaign between Lyndon B. Johnson and Barry Goldwater.

Weds., Nov. 2, 7 p.m.

Ball of Confusion: The 1968 Election –The 1968 Presidential election was impacted by assassinations, racial unrest and anti-war protests.

Thurs., Nov. 3, 7 p.m.

Feeling Good About America: The 1976 Presidential Election – A new feeling was sweeping the country as people pulled together to celebrate the nation’s bicentennial and to select a new president who could help close the book on the contentious decade that just ended.

Fri., Nov. 4, 7 p.m.

Raising Ms. President – Filmmaker Kiley Lane explores why more women don't run for public office in the United States.

KCETLink’s international broadcasts come from the BBC, NHK, FRANCE 24 and Germany’s DW NEWS. National shows include NEWSLINE from Japan and DEMOCRACY NOW! co-hosted by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González.

The schedule of weekly news series that will be reporting on the U.S. election on both KCET and Link TV is as follows:

6 a.m. Newsroom Tokyo  – NHK World’s newest program gives viewers comprehensive coverage of events in Japan and Asia, explaining the day’s developments and what is behind them.

7 a.m. Democracy Now! – An independent, non-commercial, global news hour produced each weekday, the award-winning program anchored by Amy Goodman and Juan González is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers and foundations.

4 p.m. France 24  – A leading 24/7 international news channel, the series covers international current events from a French perspective.

4:30 p.m. DW News (Germany) – Featuring news and analysis of the top international and European topics, the series also looks at current affairs and background information on politics, business, science, culture, globalization and the environment.

5 p.m. BBC World News America  – Delivering coverage and analysis of international events and issues with a fresh perspective, the news series anchored by Katty Kay connects the dots between the United States and the world.

5:30 p.m. Nightly Business Report – Every weeknight, the Emmy® -winning series delivers the day’s essential business and economic news with insightful features, analysis and commentaries by noted economists and business experts.

6 p.m. BBC World News  – The BBC’s 24-hour commercial free news channel, available on a range of television service providers in the U.S.

6:30 p.m. Newsline (Japan) – Produced by NHK, Japan's leading public broadcaster, the news series features global news and current affairs, business, sports, science and technology trends plus global weather forecasts from over 30 news bureaus throughout the world.

Tuesdays on KCET:

8 p.m. socal connected – Winner of a Peabody® and two duPont Awards, 23 Emmy® Awards, 26 Golden Mikes and 48 LA Press Club Awards, KCET's weekly prime time newsmagazine offers public TV and online viewers in-depth stories on the environment, economy, health, social and community issues, local history and other substantive topics.
