Burbank, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2017 – Link TV, a national independent public satellite television network, announced today two important environmental documentaries launching on the network in January that include the series premiere of RESILIENT CITIES and the premiere of the global broadcast event 24 HOURS OF REALITY.
Link TV will broadcast three seasons of RESILIENT CITIES, an International Emmy® Award nominated documentary series that uncovers the underground art scene of chaotic cities around the world recovering from the major traumas of long term war, political unrest, natural disasters or economic meltdown. Each episode profiles three or four young, determined local artists (plus one Canadian ex-pat with an outsider’s perspective) that are using art to impact their city: this is art as a form of protest, as an agent of change and as a display of courage. RESILIENT CITIES premieres Tues., Jan. 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT with encores Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Link TV available nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410).
The episodes of RESILIENT CITIES will telecast as follows (subject to change):
#01 Beirut: Art as a New Narrative – Tues., Jan. 9 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT
In a city under pressure, where conflict can break out at any moment, a new generation of artists is rising above Beirut’s bullet-holed past.
#02 Kiev: Art as Protest – Tues., Jan. 16 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT
Inside the city, examine the divide between Russia and Europe, the art of protest stands against war and corruption.
#03 Athens: Art as Solace – Tues., Jan. 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT
In Athens a photographer, an electronic pop band, a mural artist and a writer demonstrate how art is a means of survival in the midst of a city under economic crisis.
#04 Port-au-Prince: Art as Rebirth – Tues., Jan. 30 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT
In Port-au-Prince a radio host, a photographer, a singer and a Creole rapper showcase the emerging and subversive sounds and images of Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
Additionally, former Vice President Al Gore's The Climate Reality Project presents 24 HOURS OF REALITY; a live global event that took place the first week of December (with live streaming available at LinkTV.org) that lasted 24 hours and covered the climate crisis in every region of the world. Over the course of this multi-media event, world leaders, scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes discussed the shared challenges facing our planet. Link TV will present the entire live streamed event to viewers on Sat., Jan. 13 starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and running through Sun., Jan. 14.
Special performances include:
- Multi Grammy award-winning, international superstar Sheryl Crow previewing “Long Way Back” from the Front and Center Music Series
- Ryan Tedder and Brent Kutzle of OneRepublic performing their hit song “Truth to Power” as featured in An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power
- Indian music sensation Shaan, premiering his video “Janiye,” an ode to the beautiful Kashmir, which is under threat from climate change
- K-pop star Jay Park, premiering the English version of his song “Yacht”
- Now United in their first televised performance
