Los Angeles Press Club Honors KCET and PBS SoCal with 49 Nominations for 63rd Annual Southern California Journalism Awards

Burbank, Calif. – August 12, 2021 ­­– PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, announced today 49 nominations for the 63rd Annual Southern California Journalism Awards presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. Once again, the two PBS stations led all other L.A. broadcasters with the most nominations of any regional TV or Radio station. The nominations were spread across 35 different categories and honored 15 separate, locally produced series/productions from KCET and PBS SoCal. Winners will be announced in all categories presented during a ceremony on Saturday, October 16. A complete list of Finalists can be found at lapressclub.org

The locally produced investigative news series SOCAL CONNECTED received the most recognition with nine nominations. While two arts and culture series ARTBOUND and SOUTHLAND SESSIONS were nominated for six and seven awards respectively. The two stations also entirely swept one of the categories in the over 25-minute Feature Documentary category, with nominated programs EARTH FOCUS, TENDING NATURE, SOCAL CONNECTED and HOLLYWOOD’S ARCHITECT: The Paul R. Williams Story, ensuring at least one Southern California Journalism Award® win. Additional nominations included Eric Waldron for Photojournalist/Videographer of the Year and Leyna Nguyen for Anchor/Host for the informational series PROPS IN A MINUTE: Election 2020.
