Burbank, CA -- May xx, 2013 - KCET's award-winning

transmedia arts and culture series, Artbound,

continues its second season with a brand new episode premiering on Thursday, May 30 at 9 p.m. This installment

brings unique stories that celebrate the creative spirit of Southern

California. Culled from Artbound articles selected by KCET's online audience,

these documentary segments include:

Counter Cliché: The Asian and Latino Bi-Cultural Experience - Artist Shizu Saldamando, a visual

artist whose work explores a punk rock, Chicano subculture in Los Angeles. Her

work begins by photographing her subjects in their natural environments, such

as backyard parties in East L.A., which are then recreated through painting on

various surfaces, ranging from tablecloths, wood, and even skin, in the form of

tattoos.

Domestic Affairs: The Poetically Political Art of Nery Gabriel Lemus -

Artist Nery Lemus, who draws inspiration from his experiences as a social

worker, creates art that comments on race, gender and domestic abuse.

Pop-Life: Why Melrose Avenue is a Mecca for Graffiti Writers - Artbound

hits the streets of Melrose to uncover the history of LA's street art culture

that exploded in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This piece highlights the main

players in the scene including: Mear One, Axis, Dytch, Lynk and Rakka of

Dilated Peoples.

From the Center of the Margin: Contemporary Art Galleries in Downtown Tijuana - Based on a column by Misael Diaz,

this video maps the pasajes ("passages") of Tijuana, alleys housing

small craft vendors and a burgeoning arts scene that is revitalizing the city.

In addition, beginning Thursday, May 30, Artbound introduces the Los Angeles Public Library and the Library Foundation's 'Songs in the Key

of Los Angeles' musical history project. An online bi-weekly series of

mini-documentaries that spotlight the world's only collection of Southern

California sheet music through a contemporary lens, each piece highlights

recording sessions of local artists performing selected songs from the

collection. This episode of Artbound will feature the recording session and

interview with LA folk-country band, I See Hawks in L.A.
