Burbank, Calif. – Aug. 28, 2018– KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, announced today specially curated programs to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month on both KCET public television in Southern California and Link TV nationwide. The shows highlight Hispanic culture as well as the obstacles presented to Latinos by today's societal constraints. Exploring the hardships and triumphs of bi-cultural identity, undocumented citizenship and immigration, these documentaries look for a way to educate communities and create positive change. Programming will begin on Sun., Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. on KCET in Southern California with a select few also airing on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH Network 9410) and will continue throughout the following four weeks.

In addition to the network premiere of the 2016 documentary CONEXIONES: A CUBAN MEXICAN CONNECTION, KCET will host two other Hispanic Heritage Month specials BEYOND BORDERS: UNDOCUMENTED MEXICAN AMERICANS and a fan-favorite edition of CALIFORNIA’S GOLD WITH HUELL HOWSER highlighting the beloved host’s visit to the Cesar Chavez Foundation. Three KCET Originals – LOST LA, ARTBOUND and THE MIGRANT KITCHEN will feature Hispanic Heritage content as well during the month long celebration.

To cap off the Heritage Month schedule, KCET will for the first time broadcast THE 33rd ANNUAL IMAGEN AWARDS administered by the Imagen Foundation, an organization dedicated to encouraging and recognizing the positive portrayals of Latinos in the entertainment industry.

A collective of culturally connected, distinguished chefs (including Ray Garcia of Broken Spanish, Wes Avila of Guerilla Tacos, Carlos Salgado of Taco Maria, as well as Jorge Gaviria of corn purveyor, Masienda) work to preserve heritage and push forward the “Alta California” Mexican food movement.
