Lineup Highlights Brave Military Heroes From WWII, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and Today
Burbank, Calif. – Oct. 24, 2017 – KCET, the nation’s largest independent public television station, announced today five special programs to honor America’s courageous men and women on/around November 11, National Veterans Day. The programming will highlight the heroes who sacrifice their lives daily and the great consequences they face. The lineup of programs follows multiple journeys of military men/women from all generations. The programming will run leading up to Veterans Day from Wed., Nov. 8 – Sat., Nov. 11 on KCET in Southern California.
The lineup of Veterans Day programming will be telecast as follows (*subject to change):
LINK VOICES “Comedy Warriors - Healing Through Humor” – Wed., Nov. 8 at 10 p.m. encores on Thurs., Nov. 9 at 1:30 a.m. with streaming on YouTube, Roku and Apple TV.
The film follows five severely wounded Iraq/Afghanistan veterans who are given the opportunity to explore their experiences through the healing power of humor. With the help of professional comedy writers and A-List comedians including Zach Galifianakis, Lewis Black, Bob Saget and B.J. Novak, these veterans are able to find new perspectives on life.

Meet the scientists and chefs working to ensure the health and wellbeing of our nation’s finest, even as the toughest terrains and harshest conditions in the world challenge them. Watch host August Dannehl and fellow veteran Mike Williams transform the military’s utilitarian ration MRE into mouthwatering “Jambalaya Risotto with Duo of Duck.”
“Escape From Firebase Kate” – Fri., Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. PT
This documentary tells the compelling story of 26 US soldiers who were forced to abandon Firebase Kate and escape through a jungle full of thousands of NVA soldiers during the Vietnam War in 1969.
KCET MUST SEE MOVIES “The Great Escape” (1963) – Fri., Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. PT encores Sat., Nov. 11 at 3 p.m.
Allied prisoners of war plan for several hundred to escape from a German POW camp during World War II. Based on a true story, the rousing and adventurous tale is filled with actors portraying these heroic roles in including Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough and James Coburn.
“Searching For Home: Coming Back From War” - Sat., Nov. 11 at 11 p.m. PT
A multi-generational documentary that chronicles the journey from battlefield to homefront as veterans search for healing and hope through their testimonies. The film explores the harrowing effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on military families after veterans return from combat spanning World War II to Afghanistan.
