New Wednesday Night Lineup Features Documentaries Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges and More; Part of KCET’s “Summer of the Environment” Initiative
BURBANK, Calif. – June 13, 2017 – KCETLink Media Group, a leading national independent nonprofit public broadcast and digital network, has added special environmental programming to its summer lineup with EARTH FOCUS PRESENTS; a new Wednesday night series featuring current and relevant documentary films that will premiere under KCET and Link TV’s EARTH FOCUS banner. The lineup offers seven of the most buzzed about current environmental films focused on the ecological responsibility that is shared worldwide, in support of KCET and Link TV’s “Summer of the Environment” initiative. The film lineup kicks off with Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The 11th Hour” which features ongoing dialogues of experts from all over the world on how to change course on improving the earth’s ecosystems, including former Soviet Union Minister Mikhail Gorbachev, renowned scientist Steven Hawking and many more. The EARTH FOCUS PRESENTS strand of critically acclaimed, award-winning and topical documentary films launches on Wed., July 5 at 10 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The documentary offering is part of KCETLink’s EARTH FOCUS franchise, which investigates the state of our planet’s environment and its impact on people around the world and includes the longest-running environmental series on U.S. television. “The 11th Hour” – Wed., July 5 at 10 p.m. PT on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
The documentary film was created, produced, co-written and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, on the state of the earth. The film sheds light on how we have impacted the world and how we can change course to improve the earth’s ecosystems.
“The Cove” – Wed., July 12 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Directed by Louie Psihoyos, the Academy Award®-winning documentary uses state-of-the-art technology to expose the ecological crimes happening worldwide. The film follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers as they embark on a covert journey to infiltrate a cove in Japan.
“Seeds of Time” – Wed., July 19 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
The 2013 documentary film follows agriculture pioneer Cary Fowler on his journey to save the eroding foundation of our food supply amid climate change.
“A Fierce Green Fire” – Wed., July 26 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 7 p.m. ET/PT
Narrated by Robert Redford, Ashley Judd, Van Jones, Isabel Allende and Meryl Streep, the film chronicles the grassroots history and global activism surrounding the environmental movement. Written and directed by Academy Award® winner Mark Kitchell.
“Tapped” – Wed., Aug. 2 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution and reliance on oil.
“Breath of Life” – Wed., Aug. 9 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Narrated by actor Jeff Bridges, the documentary film travels the world to explore not how, but why humans are destroying the planet.
“The City Dark” – Wed., Aug. 16 at 10 p.m. on KCET in Southern California and on Link TV nationwide (DirecTV 375 and DISH network 9410) at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Featuring astrophotography and a cast of eclectic scientists, the documentary film is the definitive story of light pollution and the disappearing stars.
Each broadcast will be augmented by original content published on KCETLink’s EARTH FOCUS web site, on related topics ranging from environmental justice to climate activism to surfing as a traditional environmental act. Contributors will include veteran environmental journalist Aura Bogado, International Marine Mammal Project director David Phillips, and climate activist Richard Heinberg, who is featured in “The 11th Hour.” (Contributor list may change before broadcast.)
“Summer of the Environment” is a three-month initiative (June-August) on KCET and Link TV offering audiences a robust library of content on multiple platforms intended to ignite compassion and action for helping to save and heal the planet.
